Holy Monastery of Arkadi
The Holy Monastery of Arkadi is built among olives, pines, vines and cypresses, 500 meters above sea level. It is the most historic monastery of Crete, directly connected to the struggle of the Cretan people for freedom. During the Cretan Revolution of 1866 the monastery was besieged by a large Ottoman force and after a fierce battle and capture, the remaining defendants blew themselves up by detonating the powder magazine. UNESCO declared Arkadi a Monument of European Freedom.
Ancient Eleftherna
Ancient Eleftherna is located 25 km south-east of the city of Rethymno, relatively close to the Monastery of Arkadi. The city is the most important archaeological site of the prefecture of Rethymnon. The importance of Eleftherna as an archaeological site led to the decision to create the amazing Archaeological Museum of Ancient Eleftherna next to the archaeological site, one of the most important museums in Greece.
Margarites Village
This beautiful village immediately wins over its municipalities, both with the picturesque and wonderful images that characterize it, and with the special tradition that characterizes it. Also known as the village of pitharades, the pottery tradition and creation of its inhabitants is evident in every corner.

Argyroupoli
The village is built on the site of the ancient city of Lappa. It is a wonderful place to taste Cretan cuisine and enjoy your coffee, next to running water and under the trees. After that, you can take a walk in the surrounding area, see the archaeological sites of the Roman era and the ancient Necropolis.
Lake Kournas
Lake Kournas is the largest natural lake in Crete and is located in a magnificent landscape, between the western slopes of the White Mountains and the fertile plain of Georgioupolis. It is located very close to the village of Kournas. Lake Kournas and its surroundings are a very important ecosystem for Greece, as this corner of Apokoronas province is one of the few areas of Crete where there is plenty of fresh water throughout the year.
Georgioupoli
Georgioupolis is a small town located 30 km west of Rethymnon. The beach stretches for 1.5 km and is part of a coastline with a total length of 10 km. The beach is sandy with nice clear water and is very well organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, facilities for water sports and lifeguards.

Preveli Beach
It’s one of the most beautiful beaches of Crete! The unique setting consists of a river surrounded by palm trees and ending in the sea. Given that you cannot reach the beach by car, you will walk. But the amazing natural beauty that will reward you. Once you reach the beach, you will find a small restaurant as well as umbrellas with sunbeds.
Preveli Monastery
The monastery of Prevelis is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Crete. Although the exact date it was erected is unknown, there are indications of the presence of a small monastery in the area from the 10th century AD. The Preveli Monastery is actually two monasteries. This area is inhabited by monks and can be visited. On the premises of the monastery there is a museum displaying a collection of icons, ritual objects and relics.
Spili
Spili is a picturesque village built on a mountainous location offering views of the surrounding area. It is known for its traditional textiles and in the central square of the village you will find a fountain with lion heads. Taverns and cafes you will enjoy food and drink before setting off for a tour of the interesting area.

Agia Galini Village
This village in the south of Crete retains its authentic charm, making it an enticing destination. You’ll take in views of Agia Galini’s port, the serene hills surrounding town and the Lybian Sea. Tranquil nearby beaches offer a chance to bask in the Mediterranean sun, while cultural diversions like the remains of the ancient Roman city of Gortyn and the stunning Minoan palace of Phaistos are within driving distance.
Agios Pavlos
The bay Agios Pavlos is located on the south coast of Crete 58 km away from Rethymnon and it is affected by the south winds. The wind in your hair and sand in your toes. You have to clamber down to the beach, but with the steep sides rising around you, the blue sea stretching before you, this is a fantastic beach for chilling day at the beach.
Triopetra Beach
Triopetra literally means “Three Rocks” and its name comes from the stunning rock formations that rise from the sea at the middle of this gorgeous destination. Backed by low mountains and blessed with superb sand and the mesmerizing Libyan Sea, Triopetra Beach is one of the most enticing destinations on the island. Seitan Limania Beach
This spectacular beach nestled at the bottom of a dramatic narrow zig zag gorge is one of the more unique spots on Crete. The name Seitan Limania means “Devil Harbour” in a combination of Turkish and Greek, in reference to the nasty currents around the mouth of the gorge. With a mix of sand and pebbles at the edge of gorgeous blue water, all hemmed in by steep cliffs, it is one of the most photographed beaches on the island.
Monastery of Panagia Chrisoskalitissa
Chrysoskalitissa Monastery is a 17th-century Orthodox Christian monastery located on the southwest coast of the island of Crete and it is built up on rocks 35 meters above the water, overlooking the Libyan Sea. The monastery is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and the Dormition of Virgin Mary. It is an historical and one of the most famous monasteries in Crete due to its impressive architecture and the short distance from Elafonisi.
Antifonitria Monastery
The Monastery of Virgin Mary Antifonitria is located in Miriokefala, a small mountainous village 29 km southwest of Rethymnon Town. According to tradition, the monastery was established after Saint John heard a voice coming from a bush in that spot going Here I am! Here I am!. Under that bush, he found an icon of the Virgin Mary, which was said to be miraculous. From this incident, the monastery was named Antifonitria, meaning she who shouts.
Bali Village
Bali is a gorgeous beach resort located on the north coast of Crete, between Rethymno and Heraklion. Bali is tucked into its own eastward-facing cove. It is an ideal beach town for people who want a relaxing beach holiday. Besides being beautiful, it is very convenient – you will find everything you need in Bali, including shops and a variety of tavernas.
Anogia Village
One of the most famous and tourist village of Rethymnon, Anogia village in Crete, is perched on the slopes of Psiloritis at an altitude of 700m. Local music, folk art and tradition are the elements that have remained unchanged in time, since the inhabitants of the village carry them from generation to generation.
Samaria Gorge
The Samaria Gorge is the most famous trekking gorge in Europe and a part of the European E4 hiking trail. Thousands of tourists flock here daily in the summer season to walk from the top to the bottom. The length of the gorge reaches 14.5km and takes almost 5-7 hours to hike from Xyloskalo at Omalos plateau to Agia Roumeli beach, depending on the trekking pace.
Kourtaliotiko Gorge
Among the most interesting natural wonders of southern Crete, the beautiful gorge of Kourtaliotiko is a wild and fascinating destination, where you can admire the unique geological formations, splendid waterfalls and pristine nature of Crete. Starting south of the village of Koxare, it leads towards the south, passing through a plain and continuing with the small gorge of Preveli, finally reaching the magnificent beach of Preveli.
The Palace of Knossos
This prehistoric archaeological site is located just outside the island’s capital city, surrounded by beautiful hills. You’ll be transported back in time as you explore the ruins and learn about the fascinating history of this ancient city. The Throne Room is a highlight, with stunning frescoes that have survived for thousands of years.
The Palace of Phaistos
The Palace of Phaistos lies on the East end of Kastri hill at the end of the Mesara plain in Central Southern Crete. To the north lies Psiloritis, the highest mountain in Crete. On the slopes of Psiloritis is the Kamares cave, probably a religious or cult centre for Phaistos and the Mesara plain. Phaistos was one of the most important centres of Minoan civilization, and the most wealthy and powerful city in southern Crete
Fortezza of Rethymno
The Venetian stronghold of Fortezza is built on top of a low hill above Rethymno Town. The hill is known as Paleokastro, which means old castle in Greek and suggests the existence of an older structure in that place. This huge fortress, with its turbulent history, was built between 1540 and 1570 by the Venetian maritime power as a bulwark against Turkish pirates.
